A Promise of a New Beginning is a very sweet and emotional read. The book made me smile and made me cry.

Savannah Braden is a strong, loyal, and caring woman. Savannah had been stuck in a bad relationship and need a reminder on just how strong she truly can be. Savannah took a step out of her comfort zone to go on the survivor camp.

Jack Remington had suffered a major life change. The once loving husband is full of grief and guilt. He lashes out to keep his walls up and people at a distance.

Savannah's warm and kind heart started breaking down Jack's walls, which shocked them both.

Jack's story on what happened with his wife and family made me tear up each time it was mentioned. I spent a big portion of the story hoping that Jack would reconnect with his family and learn to love again. I was not disappointed.

Ripley's Believe It or Not! Unlock the Weird Review

I received the Ripley's Believe It or Not! Unlock the Weird! book through a promotion.

Growing up, I was a fan of the Ripley's Believe It or Not books. Turns out, I still am. I enjoy reading the write ups, facts, and strange stories. I especially enjoy the stories or achievements that have their pictures included in the book. It allows me to visualize and see what is actually being talked about.

The book is broken down into sections. These sections include: Believe it!, World, Animals, Body, Pop Culture, Transport, Feats, Art, Food, and Beyond Belief. My favorite sections are the Animals, Pop Culture, and Art. The Body section always intrigues me and grosses me out.

The Ripley's books are ones I have fun sharing with my nieces and nephews. It's fun to read the strange stories and facts with them. Their facial expressions towards the gross and the weirdest stories is almost as amusing as the book itself.

The book is a great gift for teens, preteens, or anyone who is a fan of weird and strange stories.

One of the stories in this book that grossed me out is the Sheep Dung Spitting. Who and why does someone do this? I would not want sheep dung anywhere near my mouth. This strange story had me cringing, yet my curiosity got the best of me. I had to read the strange story. The pictures had me too intrigued to just pass it by.

This book will hook you from the very first paragraph, as you meet Lakeisha, a mail scanner for a women’s prison. She reads the prisoner’s correspondence, checks it for drugs and dangerous devices, and delivers the mail.Lakeisha is drawn into the correspondence Kristen has with her husband. And in this way, the reader is also drawn into the story about life inside a correctional facility for women.  Kristen is the main character. She’s in jail for bilking her employer out of a huge sum of money. In the process, she lost the trust of her husband and children and virtually bankrupted them. They are bitter and wary of her, but she continues to send letters to her husband telling him how sorry she is. The only family member to write back is her sister-in-law, Olivia, who extends a lifeline to her with family pictures and events.We also meet a panoply of colorful characters from the flashy inmate, Lupe, to the prison psychiatrist, Megan, the warden, Laura, Kristen’s antagonist, Jess, and many others. Each person has their story, their trials, and triumphs, and you’ll find yourself rooting for all of them.

Ms. Cano expertly weaves in multiple points of view to make you understand and empathize with all of these people. Each has his or her own pain and sorrow as well as aspirations for a better future. Necessarily, some of the stories end tragically whereas others move on as best they can. But Kristen and the others learn to take happiness in small places and to accept what can’t be changed.

The story is uplifting and poignant. You won’t want to miss this. I read this in a single evening because I not just wanted to find out what happened to the characters, but I felt for them and laughed and cried and wished so much for them to be victorious in their lives.

Everything was resolved and there were no loose ends. Even though there was sadness leavened into the book, the overall message is joyful and shows the power of love, devotion, and forgiveness. You won’t be disappointed with this wonderful story. ~ Clare Chu

Choco, also known as Choke, can be all talk with little bite. Choco is stuck in her daily routines day in and day out, until the new consultant, Johnny, comes in. Now her life is turned upside down for better or for worse. 

Choco encourages her best friend, Carlos, and her cousin, Julia, to start dating. Choco thinks it's a good idea until a kiss brings desirable feelings. Feelings she's not willing to have or show.

Choco has insecurities, just like any other girl, except if shes not careful she could risk something truly dear to her. Johnny, the consultant, helps Choco realize she can be beautiful by helping her with a makeover and encouraging her to have a backbone. 

Choco goes with the makeover until times get rocky for her family's Filipino restaurant. Too much is changing at once. Johnny is trying to change the restaurant and menu. Customers and employees are not happy.  

Choco finally opens her eyes to what truly is going on around her. She's no longer blinded, but is it too late to fix the mess that's been made?

The characters in this story are well written. Each have their own distinguishing personalities that add meaning to the story. Some are more connected to each other than they all realize. 

Each time I tried to guess what would happen next or I would know the characters next move, something else would happen. The story kept me on my toes trying to figure out how it'd progress. 

I truly enjoyed reading Claiming Carlos.
